On 31 March 2025, the European Commission opened a public consultation titled “Towards a circular, regenerative and competitive bioeconomy”. The initiative aims to offer solutions for a circular and climate neutral economy and boost competitiveness within planetary boundaries by helping citizens, regions and key economic sectors make the best and most sustainable use of biomass. The results of the public consultation will be used to build a new bioeconomy strategy expected for the end of 2025, to complement the Competitiveness Compass and the Clean Industrial Deal.

In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, Europe not only reflects back on the hopes of peace, integration and democratic cooperation in Europe, but the day where the foundation of the European Union was solidified. One notable success of this cooperation has and continues to be the European Single Market.
CEN and CENELEC are pleased to support the dissemination of the survey launched by the European Commission on the Codes of Practice for Knowledge Valorisation, adopted between 2023 and 2024.
CEN and CENELEC warmly welcome the European Commission’s publication of the Annual Union Work Programme 2025 for Standardization (AUWP), setting out six priorities and 78 actions to enhance industrial resilience, foster the digital and green transitions, support EU space infrastructure, and strengthen the internal market. This programme has been drawn up to specifically support EU policies and legislation with the objective of contributing to a green, digital and resilient Single Market, as well as the EU’s international objectives.
As the European Commission launches the Clean Industrial Deal, a transformative initiative aimed at accelerating the green transition across Europe’s industrial sector, two words come to mind: sustainable and competitive.
The European Commission still continues to publish new reports from the High-Level Forum on European Standardization’s workstreams. The new report include recommendations on standardization in different fields and how they can support the relevant sectors across Europe.
CEN and CENELEC have officially approved a Position Paper on the future European Research & Innovation Framework Programme (FP10). Developed by CEN-CLC/BT Working Group 3 ‘STAIR’ (STAndardization, Innovation and Research), this document outlines key strategic recommendations to enhance the role of standardization in European R&I.
On 31 January, CEN and CENELEC replied to the call for evidence launched by the European Commission on the upcoming Single Market Strategy. This Strategy aims to modernize the Single Market to better support European competitiveness and innovation. CEN and CENELEC, as two of the three official European Standardization Organizations (ESOs), took this opportunity to outline standardization’s important contribution to the Single Market and how standardization can be used to support the goals of this strategy.

This strategic initiative is a positive and bold first step towards reinforcing the EU's ability to lead in the world economy and advance the twin green and digital transitions.
