By printing living cells layer by layer, this emerging technology can create biological tissues and could one day enable patient-specific organs that are fully compatible with the body.
Over the last few months, CEN and CENELEC have been reaching out to the European Parliament regarding the drafting of the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) and the 10th EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation (FP10, 2028-2034), the successor to Horizon Europe. Together with national Members, CEN and CENELEC will continue to reach out to the Members of Parliament in the ITRE committee to convince them to build on the European Standardization Strategy and the Guiding Principles of Knowledge Valorisation and Code of Practice on Standardization in the European Research Area (full article here).
In January, CEN and CENELEC participated in the European Commission’s public consultation on the European Research Area Act, the flagship initiative aimed at closing the EU’s innovation gap and making Europe the most attractive destination for researchers.
On 19 November, the Horizon Europe funded project Stan4SWAP marked the project’s final event. The event was opened by MEP Pierfrancesco Maran and brought together industry experts, researchers, policymakers, and city representatives to discuss how swappable batteries for light-category electric vehicles (L-cat EVs) can support Europe’s transition to sustainable urban mobility.
On 12 November 2025, over 100 stakeholders from industry, standardization bodies, research organizations and EU institutions gathered for the RISERS Plenary on Industrial Symbiosis (IS). Co-organized by CEN and CENELEC with RISERS partners at the EIT House in Brussels, it marked an important step toward developing a European Standardization Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis.
The European Commission has launched the second edition of the European Standardisation Panel Survey. A key initiative designed to gather comprehensive input from industry and other stakeholders on their standardization needs, supporting innovation and strengthening Europe’s global competitiveness.
On 13 November, CEN and CENELEC revealed the winners of this year’s Standards+Innovation awards at the European Commission’s flagship event titled “From knowledge to impact: Shaping Europe’s next innovation wave”.
CEN and CENELEC are pleased to announce the successful kick-off of the new Advisory Committee on Research & Innovation (AC R&I), which took place on 29 and 30 October 2025 in Brussels, under the leadership of Fernando Utrilla (UNE).
CEN-CENELEC/JTC 22 ‘Quantum Technologies’ have published their first ever deliverable in the form of a Technical Report (TR). The document covers the universal gate-based quantum-computing model, also known as a digital or circuit quantum-computing model, on multiple physical systems. TR 18202:2025 slices down the overall complexity of quantum computing into two main groups of layers, summarizing theoretical and practical approaches with state-of-the-art definition.
