The Role of Standardization in Strengthening Science Diplomacy

The EU has taken an important step with the adoption of its first framework for science diplomacy. The framework aims to strengthen Europe’s global role, promote its values, and foster more strategic and coherent international research cooperation.

Standardization is an operational pillar of science diplomacy. Standards translate research into shared, interoperable solutions, enabling technical cooperation, trust, and rules-based international engagement.

The CEN and CENELEC Feedback for the Public Consultation and Feedback on the European framework for science diplomacy can be found here.

Looking ahead to FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund, integrating standardization more explicitly will be key to maximizing the global impact of EU research and innovation.

CEN and CENELEC call for stronger recognition of standardization in FP10 and the European Competitiveness Fund.
