CEN and CENELEC Activities

We are pleased to inform you about the upcoming CEN and CENELEC activities in 2026.

3 November – RISERS Conference – How can Europe drive cross-sectoral resource efficiency? Upscaling industrial symbiosis through standardization

The conference will bring together representatives of industry, research, policymaking and standardization to discuss how Europe can accelerate the implementation of industrial symbiosis across sectors. The event will present the key results of the RISERS project, including the Industrial Symbiosis Standardization Roadmap, and explore the role of standards in bridging innovation and market deployment, supporting European policy objectives and reducing barriers to industrial collaboration.

Registration is closed.

4 November – Kick-off Meeting for CEN-CENELEC Workshop “Battery2Life”

A new joint workshop is being launched to explore the options of second life batteries in the context of an interoperable Battery Management System (BMS). The workshop is based on research conducted as part of the Battery2Life project and is foreseen to develop two CWAs that will form an important and complementary addition to the work of several Technical Committees, namely CLC/TC 21X 'Secondary cells and batteries', CEN/TC 301 'Road vehicles' and CLC/SR 120 'Electrical Energy Storage (EES) Systems'.

5 November – Affiliates session

Affiliates are National Standardization Bodies and National Committees from countries which are candidates or potential candidates to EU accession. CEN and CENELEC support them in their efforts to meet CEN and CENELEC criteria for Membership, one of the obligations for these countries laid down in the EU “Acquis Communautaire”. Based on a survey launched earlier this year and a first in-person meeting during CEN and CENELEC General Assemblies in June 2026 (Cyprus), this kick-off session will focus on the development of a series of workshops to be held in 2027.

5 November – Board Standing Committee Policy and Strategy (BSC P&S)

The CEN and CENELEC Board Standing Committee Policy and Strategy is the body advising the Boards on a comprehensive approach to strategic European and international policy topics, including stakeholder engagement. The work of the BSC P&S aims to ensure:

  • the sustained relevance of the standardization system;
  • recognition of the European and international stakeholders and their support to the strategic value of the European standardization system.

9 November – Kick-off Meeting for CEN Workshop 'United Circles'

A new CEN Workshop is being established to develop a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) entitled “Feasibility to Finance Guidelines for Industrial-Urban Symbiosis within Hubs for Circularity: the UNITED CIRCLES Approach”. The workshop stems from work being done in the UNITED CIRCLES project. The workshop will build upon the Feasibility to Finance (F2F) framework of the Horizon Europe project and will provide guidance by describing an investment readiness pathway that will support new projects involved in Industrial-Uran Symbiosis.
