SDG 12 focuses on economic and social progress over the last century has been accompanied b environmental degradation that is endangering the planet. Sustainable consumption and production is about decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation, adoption of sustainable practices by businesses and promoting environmentally-aware lifestyles of consumers. It can also contribute to poverty alleviation and the transition towards low-carbon and green economies.
In an EU context SDG 12 focuses on progress made in decoupling environmental impacts from economic growth, in decreasing its energy consumption and in tackling waste generation and management.
