The European Commission still continues to publish new reports from the High-Level Forum on European Standardization’s workstreams. The new report include recommendations on standardization in different fields and how they can support the relevant sectors across Europe.

CEN and CENELEC have officially approved a Position Paper on the future European Research & Innovation Framework Programme (FP10). Developed by CEN-CLC/BT Working Group 3 ‘STAIR’ (STAndardization, Innovation and Research), this document outlines key strategic recommendations to enhance the role of standardization in European R&I.

On 31 January, CEN and CENELEC replied to the call for evidence launched by the European Commission on the upcoming Single Market Strategy. This Strategy aims to modernize the Single Market to better support European competitiveness and innovation. CEN and CENELEC, as two of the three official European Standardization Organizations (ESOs), took this opportunity to outline standardization’s important contribution to the Single Market and how standardization can be used to support the goals of this strategy.

CEN and CENELEC, two of the officially recognized European Standardization Organizations, welcome the European Commission's recently issued Competitiveness Compass. This strategic initiative is a positive and bold first step towards reinforcing the EU's ability to lead in the world economy and advance the twin green and digital transitions.

CEN, CENELEC and ETSI prepared a recommendation paper on Industrial Data, which was developed by the CEN-CENELEC-ETSI Coordination Group on Smart Manufacturing.

“A Strong Single Market needs a Strong European Standardization System”: CEN and CENELEC brought their messages for the new legislative cycle to the European Parliament. During the September plenary session of the European Parliament, CEN and CENELEC shared their call for a reinforced public-private partnership within the European Standardization System with MEPs and other stakeholders.

Regulation 1025/2012 on European Standardization is the key legal framework that facilitates the effective public-private partnership between CEN and CENELEC and the European Union/EFTA. Regulation 1025/2012 is currently undergoing evaluation by the European Commission, including a public consultation via a questionnaire that took place on the Have Your Say platform from 2 May 2024 to 25 July 2024.

CEN and CENELEC are excited to share their Declaration for the next legislative cycle. In it, the two organizations call upon the European institutions to commit to priorities that enable a well-functioning Single Market supported by a strong European Standardization System.

With the release of his much-anticipated report on the future of the Single Market, Enrico Letta has provided the opportunity for Europe to reconsider its approach to this cornerstone of the European Union. CEN and CENELEC share the ambition of a revitalised Single Market and are pleased to see the recognition of standardization as a means to realize this goal.
