On 14 October 2022, CEN and CENELEC join the international standardization community in celebrating World Standards Day. Under the motto “Shared visions for a better world”, the event is an opportunity to showcase the many ways in which international standards can contribute to building a sustainable future.

As part of its efforts towards gender responsive standardization, the UNECE's Gender Responsive Standards Initiative (GRSI) has launched a new survey and invites all Standards Bodies to take a few minutes to share their experiences related to Gender responsive standards practices and training needs. The survey, developed by UNECE GRSI’s Project Team 1 ‘Training and Best Practice’, has been designed to learn about current gender and standards practices and identify potential knowledge gaps and training needs within standards bodies.

CEN and CENELEC are calling for participants in their “Standards of the future – machine readable” project.

On 14 July 2021, the General Court of the EU ruled in the Public.Resource.Org, Inc. and Right to Know CLG v European Commission case (T-185/19) that the European Commission is right to deny free access without charge to harmonized standards (hENs).

CEN-CLC/JTC 11 ‘Accessibility in the built environment’ develops standardization deliverables as requested by the mandate M/420 ‘European accessibility requirements for public procurement in the built environment’.

On 14 October 2020, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, the three official European Standardization Organizations, join the international standardization community in celebrating World Standards Day. By focusing on the environment, this year’s edition aims to raise awareness on the potential of standards to help tackle the climate crisis.
