European standards support the industrial strategy for Europe

A new CEN Workshop is being planned as part of the activities of the EU project 'Climateurope2'. The aim of this project is to provide guidance and recommendations for the standardisation of climate services to benefit society.

Four new standards supporting the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) 2011/305 have recently been published, strengthening the regulatory framework for residential fuel-burning appliances. Developed by CEN technical committees, the standards were cited in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU) on 9 February 2026, meaning they can now be used to demonstrate compliance with the CPR.

After nearly thirty years of improving postal services in Europe, CEN/TC 331 ‘Postal services’ is joining CEN/TC 320 ‘Transport - Logistics and services’ which is, thus, acquiring a reviewed title ‘Transport, Logistics and Postal Services’ and scope. This transition marks a new chapter for standardization in transport, logistics, and postal services.

For the second episode of the series, we interviewed Joanna Gajdek, at Austrian Standards (ASI), on an initiative to increase the participation of young girls in standardization and the importance of diversity in ensuring the resilience of our system.

The CEN and CENELEC Standards+Innovation Awards acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions of Researchers, Innovators and Entrepreneurs to Standardization. On 26 October, for its fifth edition, we will host the 2023 Awards Ceremony. Approaching the event, we conducted a series of interviews with the winners of last year’s edition, to better know them and understand how winning the award has impacted their career.

Our series on young professionals in European standardization continues in 2025. The first interview in this year's series involves Michal Bugala from Slovakia, working as an expert in acoustics and vibrations at a private accredited testing laboratory that provides a wide range of acoustic services. He expressed the importance of standardization for acoustics and vibrations, the added value young professionals can bring to standardization, and how standards can help address current challenges, among other topics.
