CEN activities in a nutshell

Sharing ambitions for a green, secure and competitive Single Market, CEN, CENELEC and their Danish Member, Danish Standards, welcome the beginning of Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union. We look forward to working closely together in the second half of 2025. By leveraging the strength of European standardization, we are ready to contribute to the Danish Presidency’s priorities.

With the launch of the first Standards+Innovation Awards, CEN, CENELEC and their members took important steps towards giving researchers well-deserved recognition for their contribution to standardization. However, there can be no research in standardization without education in standardization. Education in standardization based on European values also reinforces Europe’s capacity to contribute to international standardization activities. With the new award category dedicated to education, CEN and CENELEC address the need for education and skills identified in the EU Standardization Strategy released in 2022 and the Code of Practice on standardization published in 2023.

On 1 June 2025, more than 60 participants from 13 African countries gathered in Cairo for a high-level workshop co-hosted by the African Electrotechnical Standardisation Commission (AFSEC) and the InDiCo-Global project. Organised by CEN, CENELEC and ETSI with the support of the Egyptian government, the event brought together national standardisation committees, ministries, regulators, and private sector stakeholders to strengthen mutual understanding and develop cooperation between African and European standardisation systems in the digital domain.

The Global Partnership for Human-Centric ICT Standardization Project (GIST) was officially launched on 06 Feb 2025 at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA), marking a significant step towards strengthening global collaboration on ICT standardization, as part of the EU’s Global Gateway initiative.
