Call for Task Leaders: Contribute to the development of an assessment methodology for Road Restraint Systems

The European Commission, through the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), is funding experts to join the TRUST project. It is a strategic initiative which primary objective is to provide, for road restraint systems, a technical contribution in support of Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 November 2024 laying down harmonized rules for the marketing of construction products and repealing Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 and CPR Acquis.

Project Scope

The project will provide technical inputs for the revision of the CEN EN 1317 series and other related documents in relation to the future Standardization Request destined to replace M/111 and the systematic review of voluntary standards and other Technical Specifications, in particular:

  • EN 1317-5:2007+A2:2012 (harmonized standard related to road restraint systems)
  • EN 1317-1:2010 (terminology and general criteria for test methods)
  • EN 1317-2:2010 (safety barriers)
  • EN 1317-3:2010 (crash cushions)
  • CEN/TS 17342:2019 (motorcyclist protection systems)
  • CEN/TS 1317-7:2023 (terminals)
  • CEN/TS 1317-9:2023 (removable barriers sections)
  • CEN/TR 1317-10:2023 (transitions)
  • EN 16303 (validation and verification of models for virtual testing)
  • Guidelines for the use of EN 1317
Coordination and Expert Involvement

TRUST is coordinated by CEN and AFNOR under the framework of CEN/TC 226/WG 1 (Road restraint systems). The initiative brings together regulators at European level dealing with road safety, stakeholders, test houses, certification bodies, and manufacturers of road restraint systems and manufacturers of vehicles through the existing liaison between CEN/TC 226 and CEN/TC 301 “Road vehicles”.

The outcome will directly support EU policy priorities in :

  • Improving the competitiveness of the industry
  • Supporting innovation by facilitating the improvement of road restraint systems
  • Increasing in road safety because new vehicles and crash scenarios will be assessed giving more reliable data to road designers.
Why Join?

By joining the TRUST project, you will, through your expertise, play a decisive role in supporting the competitiveness of industry by providing a valuable contribution to the continued evolution of the European Standard EN 1317 and, by extension, the continuation of CE marking and its expansion to other Road Restraint System products covered by European Technical Specifications that are not yet harmonized.
