On 13 April, CEN and CENELEC welcomed Mr El hadji Abdourahmane Ndione, the Director-General of Association Sénégalaise de Normalisation (ASN) and the Chair of ISO DEVCO, to explore areas of shared interest between both organizations.
The meeting’s aim was to exchange on how standardization may support trade policy and the implementation of legislation. ASN also reflected on the European experience as a regional standard body and compared it with their experience within ECOSHAM (the regional standard body of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS) and within AFSEC/ARSO (the Pan-African standards bodies), especially in light of the recently signed Kigali Agreement between ARSO and ISO, inspired by the Vienna Agreement between CEN and ISO.
The meeting emphasized the relevance of mutual participation in ISO and IEC technical committees to foster technical alignment and the subsequent adoption of international standards. ASN also showed interest in the CEN and CENELEC partnership frameworks, in particular in view of the potential adoption of European standards, e.g. the Eurocodes.
The ASN Director-General reaffirmed interest in deepening engagement with CEN and CENELEC and our Members.
