Inland Navigation
Europe is characterized by an important inland navigation network with a long history. Inland waterway transport plays an important role for the transport of goods in Europe and the inland navigation is highly regulated.
CEN/TC 15 ‘Inland navigation vessels' develops standards for vessels, equipment, and ship-shore interfaces, promoting safety, sustainability, and efficiency.
Marine Equipment
CEN and CENELEC support the Marine Equipment Directive by developing standards in consultation with the Committee on Safe Seas and the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (COSS).
Recreational Craft
CEN/TC 464 ‘Small Craft’, in collaboration with ISO/TC 188 under the Vienna Agreement, develops standards on safety and environmental performance of small crafts and support The Recreational Craft Directive (2013/53/EU) addresses safety and environmental performance.
Alternative Fuels Infrastructure
Standards support the deployment of interoperable fuels infrastructure (e.g., electricity, hydrogen, LNG) for maritime and inland vessels, ensuring seamless refueling across the EU.
CEN/TC 15 'Inland navigation vessels', CEN/TC 268 'Cryogenic vessels and specific hydrogen technologies applications' and CLC/TC 18X 'Electrical installations of ships and of mobile and fixed offshore units' works on the development of standards in this field in support of Regulation (EU) 2023/1804.
