Safe, Efficient, and Sustainable Transport
In a rapidly evolving world, Europe needs a transport system that is safe, efficient, resilient, and sustainable. Transport is vital for citizens and the economy.
Thanks to the expertise of European industry, SMEs, and sectoral federations, CEN and CENELEC play a central role in the standardization of transport systems and applications across all modes road, rail, water, air, and space and transversal topics (ITS, TDG), covering safety, interoperability, intermodality and environmental performance.
Many standards are developed in response to European Commission Standardization Requests and support EU legislations.
CEN and CENELEC standards supports notably:
- Interoperability of the rail system (Directive 2016/797/EU)
- Recreational craft and personal watercraft (Directive 2013/53/EU)
- Deployment of alternative fuels infrastructure (Regulation (EU) 2023/1804)
- Deployment of intelligent transport systems (Directive 2010/40/EU)
- Cableway installations for passengers (Regulation 2016/424/EU)
