Horizontal aspects related to safety of machinery in CEN are within the responsibility of different Technical Bodies.

CEN/TC 114 'Safety of machinery' which produces standards and other documents on general principles for the safety of machinery, including terminology and methodology. These standards are often referred to in the standards dealing with a specific type of machinery. Nearly 100% of the standards published by CEN/TC 114 are developed in cooperation with ISO/TC 199, and most of them support the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC). Among portfolio of CEN/TC 114 is EN ISO 12100:2010 'Safety of machinery - General principles for design - Risk assessment and risk reduction', which translates the requirements of the Directive on machinery (2006/42/EC) into a hazard-based approach. The TC has also developed the documents on the impact of cyber-security and Artificial Intelligence for machines.

CEN/TC 211 ‘Acoustics’ developed with ISO/TC 43 ‘Acoustics’ and ISO/TC 43/SC 1 ‘Noise’ more than 80 standards which provide information and guidance to practitioners, scientists and authorities around Europe. These documents pave the way to a higher quality of life resulting from lower noise exposure levels by reduction of the risk for hearing damage and annoyance due to noise for all humans in public, working and private environments

Machinery terminological database in 35 different languages (Sept 2012) (Excel)
The purpose of this document is to provide a multilingual database with the terms given by EN ISO 12100:2010 (including, definitions linked to those 57 terms).

The database is composed of the 57 terms defined by EN ISO 12100 in English, French and German, and the translation of these terms into 30 different languages, namely : Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Persian (or Farsi), Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish. Free columns are provided for Albanian and Macedonian. Any other language is of course welcome in the database. ISO 639-1:2002 is used for the identification of the languages. Each national member body is invited to verify the corresponding cells in the following table, to correct them if necessary or insert the translation if available. If not validated by the national member bodies, translations will be identified as ‘non-official’. A further column has been added to give a link to the corresponding definition provided by the ISO Concept Database (“ISO CDB link”).
