2022 is the European Year of Youth. To celebrate this occasion, CEN and CENELEC are conducting a campaign, presenting a regular series of interviews with young professionals active in European standardization. In the eleventh episode of the series, we get to know Martin Häuer, from Germany.

CEN-CLC/JTC 14 ‘Energy management and energy efficiency in the framework of energy transition’ (JTC 14) just published new EN 17463 ‘Valuation of Energy related investments (VALERI)’. The standard is an important breakthrough in the developing field of “green finance”, and it was the result of the efforts of many European experts invested in this work during the difficult time of the pandemic.

To optimise the protection through prevention, CEN recently developed new standard EN 17483-1 ‘Private security services - Protection of critical infrastructure - Part 1: General requirements’.

Data centres have a notoriously high demand of resources: the massively increasing demand for IT services of all kinds continues to lead to rising consumption of (among others) electricity, water and refrigerants. Therefore, it is part of the daily business of a data centre operator to optimise facilities and infrastructures in terms of energy consumption and thus improve the environmental sustainability of the data centre.

Under the stewardship of CEN/TC 428 ‘ICT Professionalism and digital competences’ and after two years of intensive research and development, CEN published new EN 17748-1 ‘Foundational Body of Knowledge for the ICT Profession (ICT BoK) - Part 1: Body of Knowledge’, together with CEN/TR 17748-2 ‘User Guide and Methodology’.

Ensuring the electrical compatibility between rolling stock and electric traction systems is crucial for organizing a railway network. The train operating companies must be able to know the electrification parameters to confirm, after consultation with the rolling stock manufacturers, that risks of non-compatibility are minimized and that there will be no consequential disturbances on the electrification system.

CEN/TC 461 ‘Public Procurement’ develops standards in the field of public procurement. Since its inception in 2019, the TC’s main task has been the development of a new standard, EN 17687: 2022 ‘Public Procurement - Integrity and accountability - Requirements and guidance’, which now has finally seen the light.
