CEN/TC 474, a new Technical Committee on COշ capture, transportation, utilization, storage (CCUS) and carbon accounting, has been established. The first meeting will be held on 5 and 6 February 2024 at the CEN and CENELEC Management Centre (CCMC) in Brussels.

The 28th United Nations Climate Change (COP 28) is taking place from the 30 November to 12 December 2023. To welcome this opportunity to make progress in the global effort towards fighting climate change, CEN and CENELEC look at the standards that are contributing to a greener Single Market.

On Friday, 20 January, the Presidents of CEN and CENELEC participated in the inaugural meeting of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization. The event was an opportunity to initiate a collective reflection on future standardization priorities in support of European policies and the Single Market.

The document contains a user-based summative testing methodology for the measurement of the extent to which basic public services are provided in a non-discriminatory manner to their intended beneficiaries, including, but not limited to, foreign expats, regular immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers, with a special focus on their level of empowerment. This is defined by the ISO/TR 21276:2018 as “the [process of] expansion of people’s ability to make strategic life choices in a context where this ability was previously denied to them”. The purpose of this document is to provide an analytical description and exemplification of the proposed methodological approach, without providing any results from its implementation or discussion of any initial findings.

This CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) aims to cover standardisation gaps of the evaluation phase and lessons learnt documentation of an exercise of crisis management.

ANEC’s President Dermott Jewell participated in the first meeting of the High-Level Forum on European Standardization on 20 January, chaired by Commissioner Thierry Breton, and aided by Chief Standardization Officer, Maive Rute.

The Bulgarian Institute for Standardization (BDS) and the Romanian Standards Association (ASRO), in partnership with four universities, started in November 2022 the implementation of a two-year project, B-Green-ED - Boosting the Green Future via University Micro-Credentials, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission.

In 2022, the Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing (UNMS SR), together with the Czech Office for Standards, Metrology and Testing (ÚNMZ) and the Czech Standardization Agency (ČAS), commemorated the 100th anniversary of Czechoslovak standardization. To celebrate the anniversary, ceremonial events took place in Prague and Bratislava with important guests, government representatives, and partners in the field of standardization.

Last year, the European Parliament voted overwhelmingly in favour of a resolution calling on the Commission to “propose a common legal framework to ensure fair remuneration for traineeships and apprenticeships in order to avoid exploitative practices”, following a campaign by the ETUC Youth Committee (see ETUC press release of 10 November 2022). The issue of internships is now on the European Commission’s Work Programme for 2023.
