Small Steam Sterilizers and Steam Boilers: New Standards for Safer Sterilization

Two key standards supporting safe steam sterilization and pressure equipment have been cited in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). EN 13060:2025 on small steam sterilizers and EN 14222:2021+A1:2025 on stainless steel steam boilers now provide harmonized tools to demonstrate conformity with the Medical Device Regulation for a wide range of sterilization equipment.

Helping Patients and Protecting Caregivers: New Standards in Ambulance Care

Two standards have recently been published on patient handling equipment used in ambulances, developed by CEN/TC 239 ‘Rescue Systems’. EN 1865-2:2024 improves the performance of power assisted stretchers while EN 1865-6:2024 specifies requirements for powered chairs. These standards address safety and performance gaps, helping to protect both patients and caregivers.

Launch of the CEN Workshop 'Guidelines for Blood-Brain Barrier on-Chip Models for Drug Delivery Testing'

A new CEN Workshop is being established to build upon the innovative outcomes of the R&I project BiSCUIT, funded under the Horizon Europe programme. New CEN standard TS 17288 ‘The International Patient Summary: Guideline for European Implementation’

 

Two standards establishing an International Patient Summary, EN 17269:2019 and CEN/TS 17288:2020, were recently developed by CEN/TC 251 'Health informatics'. These standards cover the requirements for exchanging a core, essential dataset of healthcare data to support the continuity of care for a patient, whenever and wherever it is needed.
