With the release of his much-anticipated report on the future of the Single Market, Enrico Letta has provided the opportunity for Europe to reconsider its approach to this cornerstone of the European Union. Today, 5 March 2024, the European Court of Justice (ECJ) delivered its judgment in Case C-588/21 P concerning public access to four Harmonized Standards under Regulation 1049/2001.

The EU Industry Days are Europe’s flagship annual event focussing on key industrial policy discussions, connecting industrial frontrunners, and boosting the knowledge base of European industry. Every year, they provide an opportunity to companies, entrepreneurs, organisations, national ministries, regional authoritie,s and other industrial stakeholders to organise their own sessions as part of the official programme.
On 27 April, the European Commission proposed a Regulation on Standard Essential Patents (SEP) and launched a consultation for public feedback. CEN and CENELEC prepared a position paper in response to this consultation, outlining the role of the European Standardization System in SEP and proposing changes to the text to better reflect this role.
On 31 July 2023, the European Commission adopted the Delegated Act on the first set of European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). CEN and CENELEC welcome its adoption and the recent changes made to include reference to standards developed by CEN, CENELEC, ISO and IEC.
The new Regulation (EU) 2022/2480 of 14 December 2022, amending Regulation (EU) No 1025/2012 and focusing on the decisions on European standardization organisations concerning European standards and European standardization deliverables, will be applicable as of 9 July 2023.
