We are already well into the second month of 2024, and at SIST, the Slovenian Institute for Standardization, we are sure that all national standardization bodies have already started their activities too. Some of SIST’s work is just the continuation of previously launched tasks which will be taken to the next level in 2024. However, there are also some brand-new projects that we are looking forward to.
On 18-19 January 2024, CEN and CENELEC in Brussels hosted the kick-off meeting of the Horizon Europe Project RISERS: A Roadmap for Industrial Symbiosis Standardization for Efficient Resource Sharing. This three-year initiative will pave the way to develop standards that support building symbiotic collaborations among industries and sectors that allow keeping resources in productive use for longer.
The CEN and CENELEC Work Programme 2024 is now available!
The EU-funded project Stan4SWAP had its official kick-off meeting on January 15 & 16 at Piaggio’s headquarter in Pontedera (Italy).
Brussels, 12 January - Taking over from the Spanish Presidency, the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union began on the 1st of January and will continue until June 2024. CEN and CENELEC, together with their Belgian members, NBN, the Belgian Organization for Standards and Standardization, and CEB-BEC, the Belgian Electrotechnical Committee, are committed to collaborating with the Belgian Presidency to ensure that European Standards are recognized as a vital tool for both present and future issues facing the European Union.
Considering the recent EU proposal for a Regulation on the Safety of Toys, the revision of the Toy Safety Directive, and – most importantly - the upcoming holidays, CEN and CENELEC reflect on the role of European Standards to ensure that all toys traded in the Single Market are safe.
On Monday 4 December 2023, eleven experts holding the Chair or Secretariat of a CEN and CENELEC Technical Committee (TC) were celebrated at the CEN and CENELEC Technical Body Officer Awards. The ceremony took place in CEN and CENELEC’s Brussels headquarters.
Brussels, 13 December - How can Europe successfully generate and implement carbon-free electricity to support its climate neutrality and Green Deal plans? On 5 December, a stakeholders’ workshop organized by CEN, CENELEC, and DKE explored how standards can support the achievement of an All-Electric Society and the transition of Europe towards Net-Zero.
From 14 to 21 November 2023, SBS (Small Business Standards) organized the first edition of Meeting Standards. Coinciding with the European SME week, this initiative has significantly contributed to enhancing SME awareness of the crucial role of standards in Europe.
