A new CEN Workshop is being established entitled “Reference Architecture for AI solutions’ application within process industry – the EU project s-X-AIPI experience”. This Workshop arises from the Horizon 2020 s-X-AIPI project (self-X Artificial Intelligence for European Process Industry digital transformation). The s-X-AIPI project endeavour is to research, develop, test, and validate a bespoke suite of trustworthy self-X AI technologies tailored for process industries. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between AI capabilities and traditional automation processes, ensuring that AI tools are both accessible and effective across various industrial applications.
A new CEN Workshop is being established to build upon the innovative outcomes of the VARCITIES European Project (VISIONARY NATURE BASED ACTIONS FOR HEALTH, WELLBEING & RESILIENCE IN CITIES). The project’s vision is to implement visionary solutions in cities, creating sustainable models aimed at improving the health and well-being of citizens facing diverse climatic conditions and urban challenges.
The objective of the standardisation project is to establish European standards for customer data access and portability in the insurance sector to support the implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Article 20 and of the proposed EU Regulation on a Framework for Financial Data Access (FIDA) Articles 2(1), 4 and 5.
CEN/TC 133 'Copper and copper alloys' develops standards in the field of unwrought, wrought and cast products made from copper and copper alloys, and addresses topics such as designations, terms and definitions, material specifications, and testing methods.
Railway travel has long been celebrated for its efficiency and environmental benefits. Yet passenger experience, particularly ride comfort, remains a crucial aspect for improving rail systems. The European Standard EN 12299:2024, recently developed by CEN/TC 256, provides a groundbreaking methodology for evaluating and enhancing ride comfort in rail vehicles. This updated standard replaces the 2009 version, introducing advanced methods to ensure passenger comfort is measurable, repeatable, and aligned with modern rail technologies.
The CEN Workshop on ‘Characterization and testing of membranes for gas separation applications’ was kicked off on 04 June 2024. The Workshop’s registered participants have agreed on the final draft of the CWA.

With the project funding “CEN/2023-15 – Standards for Methods of analysis for harmful species of elements in food”, the European Commission charged the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) to elaborate European Standards in the framework of Regulation (EU) 2017/625 on official controls.
Last month, a critical update in the world of small craft safety was introduced with the release of EN ISO 15085:2024, focusing on preventing man-overboard accidents and providing solutions for reboarding. Developed by ISO/TC 188 ‘Small Craft’ mirrored at the European level by CEN/TC 464, this standard sets out detailed requirements to enhance the safety of small craft, providing a safer environment for users and reducing risks of falling in the water.
The CEN Workshop on ‘Guidelines and Requirements for Ending Fossil Fuel Use in Supply Chains’ was kicked off on August 8th 2024. The public commenting phase on the draft CWA is now open.
