A new CEN Workshop is being launched to address the growing need for a harmonized and operational framework for assessing climate-related risks in the built environment at building and neighbourhood scale.
The Workshop builds on the results of the Interreg Central Europe project SuPeRBE, which focuses on strengthening climate resilience in the built environment through evidence-based assessment tools.
Climate-related hazards increasingly affect the safety, performance and long-term value of buildings and neighbourhoods. While climate risk assessment methodologies are well established at regional and territorial scale, standardized and operational tools at building and neighbourhood level are still lacking. Existing sustainability assessment systems typically address vulnerability aspects only and are not designed to provide an integrated climate risk evaluation.
Therefore, the CEN Workshop aims to develop a CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) defining the RBE (Resilient Built Environment) Assessment System, a harmonised methodological framework for climate risk evaluation at building and neighbourhood scale.
The CWA will:
The document will serve as a shared reference method, possibly supporting public authorities, planners, designers, asset managers and other stakeholders in climate adaptation decision-making.
The kick-off meeting for the Workshop is planned to take place remotely on the 31st of March 2026, from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (CET). Interested participants can register to the kick-off meeting by sending an e-mail to fabio.rossi@uni.com.
All interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft Project Plan using the commenting form below, to the Workshop secretary (UNI) Fabio Rossi (fabio.rossi@uni.com) by March 27th, 2026.
