A new CEN Workshop is being planned as part of the activities of the EU project 'Climateurope2'. The aim of this project is to provide guidance and recommendations for the standardisation of climate services to benefit society.
There is a growing demand for precise climate-related insights to inform decision-making across various sectors and industries. At the same time, industries and public organisations are navigating a rapidly-evolving climate-services market that seeks to provide accurate information to support adaptation to increasing climate risks, while creating opportunities. However, identifying climate services that are fit-for-purpose can pose a challenge.
To improve the trustworthiness of this expanding landscape of climate services, the Climateurope2 project has produced recommendations to support the standardisation of the entire climate services value chain. These recommendations are already informing the ongoing work of CEN-CENELEC TC 467 WG2, a working group that is executing the Standardisation Request M/617.
To structure the discussions about standardisation, Climateurope2 focuses on different climate services components, including the decision context; knowledge systems; delivery mode and evaluation; and ecosystem of actors and co-production processes. Regarding the last component, the project proposes a CEN Workshop Agreement that will establish a harmonised methodology for climate services co-production, ensuring that services are developed in close collaboration with users. Embedding user needs and feedback throughout the process, enhances the credibility, relevance, and usability of climate information. This collaborative approach not only strengthens the scientific robustness of climate services but also builds trust and confidence among users by promoting transparent and accountable co-production practices.
The work undertaken through this CEN Workshop will complement the activities of CEN/TC 467 'Climate services – principles, requirements and guidelines' as well as a forthcoming standard on “Management systems and processes for climate services.”
The CEN Workshop will kick-off through an online meeting taking place on 18th March 2026 from 9.00 am to 1.00 pm (CEST): Join the Teams Meeting
All interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft Project Plan using the commenting form below, to the Workshop Secretary, Saskia Maresch (Saskia.Maresch@din.de), by March 17th, 2026.
