A new CEN Workshop is being planned which will complement the activities of the EU project 'Edu4Standards'. This project brings together a consortium of higher education institutions, standardization bodies and SMEs with the goal of innovating how standardization is taught in Europe.
Standardization and standards are crucial for the EU's economic development, market integration, and achieving key goals like the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the digital and ecological transitions. Despite their importance, there is a significant shortage of standardization education, with few higher education institutions (HEIs) in the EU offering relevant courses. This deficit is critical given the growing need for over 100,000 standardization experts. The Horizon Europe EDU4Standards project addresses this gap by developing a strategic, sustainable, and innovative educational approach at EU HEIs. The goal of this CWA is to formalize the teaching methods and content developed within this project, providing a framework for embedding standardization education into academic programs.
The goal of this CWA is to formalize the teaching methods and training content for higher education within the European Union, specifically strengthening education and training in the field of standardization across the EU.
The creation of this CEN/CENELEC Workshop has been proposed by Prof. Dr. Knut Blind (Technical University of Berlin and Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI). The CEN/CENELEC Workshop participants will be supported by the secretariat provided by the German Institute for Standardization (DIN).
