The ETUC took part in the plenary meeting of the CEN-CENELEC Joint Technical Committee 21 on 'Artificial Intelligence', held from 18 to 21 November in Copenhagen. The meeting brought together delegates from across Europe, along with international observers, to advance the standards requested by the European Commission to support the implementation of the AI Act’s requirements for high-risk AI systems.
During the session, the European Commission stressed the urgency of delivering the long-overdue standards. A number of measures have been introduced to accelerate progress, and several standards are moving forward, though at varying stages of maturity. The standard on quality management systems for AI Act regulatory purposes (QMS) is currently under Public Enquiry, while the standard on AI Risk management is expected to follow soon. Work on the remaining standards has also intensified, with the aim of publishing them shortly thereafter, pending a positive assessment from the Commission.
