Last year, the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS) celebrated a significant jubilee: 90 years since the establishment of the standardization body in the region. To honour this event, a monograph was recently published, illuminating the development of standardization in Serbia, from its beginnings to the modern era.
The monograph is not merely a story about standards, normative documents, and procedures. It is a testament to foresight, perseverance, and the constant search for quality. Through carefully documented events and figures, it revives unforgettable moments and the visionary steps of generations who believed that orderliness is the foundation of all progress.
The authors, applying the classical historiographical method, followed the key legal and social changes that shaped the operation and structure of the standardization institution, its competencies, and its goals.
The monograph covers the period from the first attempts at institutionalizing standardization in the 1930s and the establishment of the Yugoslav National Committee for Normalization under the Association of Yugoslav Engineers and Technicians in Belgrade in 1934, up to the present day. It is organized into five chapters, each representing a significant period in the development of standardization, and is supplemented with a large number of photographs and authentic document reproductions, a significant portion of which has not been previously known or published.
The monograph, “90 Years of Standardization in Serbia”, represents a journey through time – through the history, vision, and values that have shaped today’s Institute for Standardization of Serbia and its mission to lay the foundations for quality, safety, and progress.
The authors of the monograph are the current top management of the Institute for Standardization of Serbia. The monograph is currently available in the Serbian language, while an English edition is also being prepared.
