Experts needed to help with the development of a new CEN guideline for the safe operation of fitness centers during a pandemic

 

Europe, like other parts of the world, has been hit hard by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. In this context, CEN is preparing a new document presenting guidelines and recommendations for the safe operation and management of fitness centers during an infectious outbreak – now and during future pandemics.

AI in Healthcare: paving the way with standardization - CEN and CENELEC's Stakeholder Workshop

 

Brussels, 30 October 2020 - The potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the healthcare sector is huge: yet, there are still some challenges to the adoption of this new technology in Europe, such as interoperability, data quality, cybersecurity or trustworthiness. A new CEN TC will develop standards for Life Cycle Management and Circular Design of fishing gear

 

‘The main challenges regarding the fishing gear of the future will be to design gear with a maximum lifespan, suitable for re-use and/or recycling and with a minimum risk of losing, abandoning or discarding it before the end of its life’, recognises the Workshop Report ‘Re-imagining gear in a Circular Economy’, issued in January 2020.

Standards are key for the EU Green Deal: successful workshop organised by the German presidency of the EU council

 

Brussels, 18 September 2020 - On 16 September, CEN and CENELEC officers participated to the virtual workshop “Empowering European Standardisation for a Successful Green Deal”, organised by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in the framework of the German Presidency of the EU Council. The event saw the participation of European Commissioner Thierry Breton, together with a series of high level speakers coming from the European and national institutions, business, the standardization community and civil society.

Standards in support of the Green Deal: CEN and CENELEC’s new position paper

 

Through the Green Deal, the European Commission has set a series of ambitious goals to transition towards a fully green economy and reach the global climate target of net zero by 2050. CEN and CENELEC launch the new flexible standards development process

 

As of 1st of April 2020, CEN and CENELEC will start implementing the ‘Flexible Standards Development Process’, as decided by their Technical Boards. The process applies to Work Items for homegrown CEN and/or CENELEC standards, and  CEN standards under Vienna Agreement with CEN lead.

CEN and CENELEC make European standards available to help prevent COVID-19 contagion

 

Brussels 20 March 2020 - In response to the coronavirus outbreak, CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, agreed, in collaboration with all their Members and after the urgent request from the European Commission, to make freely available a series of European standards (ENs) for medical devices and personal protective equipment used in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
