CEN/TC 133 'Copper and copper alloys' develops standards in the field of unwrought, wrought and cast products made from copper and copper alloys, and addresses topics such as designations, terms and definitions, material specifications, and testing methods.
On the occasion of the European Year of Skills, which continued in 2024, we are relaunching our special campaign: through a series of interviews with standardization professionals, experts and business leaders coming from a variety of backgrounds, we will explore the interaction between innovation, skills and standardization in some of the most relevant sectors for Europe’s long-term competitiveness.
Railway travel has long been celebrated for its efficiency and environmental benefits. Yet passenger experience, particularly ride comfort, remains a crucial aspect for improving rail systems. The European Standard EN 12299:2024, recently developed by CEN/TC 256, provides a groundbreaking methodology for evaluating and enhancing ride comfort in rail vehicles. This updated standard replaces the 2009 version, introducing advanced methods to ensure passenger comfort is measurable, repeatable, and aligned with modern rail technologies.
The CEN Workshop on ‘Characterization and testing of membranes for gas separation applications’ was kicked off on 04 June 2024. The Workshop’s registered participants have agreed on the final draft of the CWA.

The European Commission has issued a draft standardisation request to the ESOs for the development of several deliverables to support the implementation of the CRA.
ETUC attended the latest plenary of the ISO Technical Committee 260 on Human Resource Management, which took place in Tokyo, Japan, in the week of 28 October 2024.
The third session of the Expert Council of the Croatian Standards Institute (HZN) was held on 21 November 2024, in the conference hall of Hotel International Zagreb. The meeting gathered representatives of companies and academia, as well as HZN employees, who discussed important topics related to standardization and its role in the sustainable development of Croatia.
