European Fire Safety Sector launches campaign for an EU Fire Safety Strategy

Ahead of the 2024 European elections, ANEC has joined other stakeholders working on fire safety in the EU in launching a campaign that calls for an EU Fire Safety Strategy.

The Manifesto calls on the European institutions to prioritise fire safety in buildings, and to develop and promote a consistent strategy with Member States for the fire safety of people in buildings. This is especially key considering current fire safety risks, and the new challenges posed by the otherwise welcome focus of the European Green Deal on decarbonising buildings.

This campaign comes at a crucial time when nearly 450 million EU citizens, who spend 90% of their time in buildings, are poised to elect their representatives to a new term of the European Parliament.

In support of the EU Manifesto, Stephen Russell, ANEC Director-General, said: “Prioritizing the collection of accurate and up-to-date EU fire statistics is essential to bolster effective prevention and consumer protection in all buildings.”
