Standardization is back: CEN and CENELEC co-organised an event on the new European Standardization Strategy

On 22 and 23 March, CEN and CENELEC, together with ETSI and ZVEI (the German Electro and Digital Industry Association), co-hosted the online event “Standardization is back”.

The event, consisting of two breakfast briefings, followed a gathering that took place in June 2021: the 1st ZVEI session “A globally competitive European Standardization for the digital decade” had the objective to raise awareness on the strategic nature of standardization and identify key success factors for EU standardization.

Following on these steps, the March 2022 event was an opportunity to discuss the new European Standardization Strategy, published in 2022 by the European Commission. In particular, the two breakfast briefings allowed a wide range of participants from the EU institutions, the industry, national standards organisations and national governments to share their analysis of the standardization strategy and explore and devise ways forward regarding the implementation of the Strategy. Particular attention was given to current challenges and the priority areas of action for European standardization.

On the second day of the event, Ewa Zielinska, CENELEC Vice-President Policy, delivered a keynote speech in which she presented the role of CEN and CENELEC in contributing to the twin digital and green transition, in the framework of the new European standardization strategy. In particular, Ms Zielinska pointed out the importance of the NLF for a well-functioning European standardization system and stated the strong commitment of CEN and CENELEC to collaborate with the European Commission under the renewed framework to address current European and global challenges.
