Ecodesign requirements
From a European regulatory point of view, Ecodesign is applicable to end-use products for domestic and commercial use as well as for intermediate products.
The European legislations set ‘Ecodesign requirements’ that are different for each category of products.
Some Ecodesign requirements are product-category specific, and some others are transverse requirements (f.i. recyclability, repairability, stand-by, …).
The manufacturers must demonstrate that their products comply with these legal requirements at all times when put available on the European market. A two-steps approach must be followed, first by defining the performance and then by checking the compliance with the limits and thresholds set by the legislations.
The role of the European standards is to establish technical methods to support the manufacturers when quantifying the real performance of their product.
