By assuming the presidency of the EU Council for the next six months(#EUFP2022), France has the ambition to reinforce Europe’s strategic autonomy. CEN and CENELEC, two of the officially recognised European standardization organizations, and AFNOR, the French Standardization Association, commit to fully deploy the power of European standards on strategic subjects and to contribute to a stronger role for Europe in the world.

The standardization activities of CEN and CENELEC for the transport sector on interoperability and safety requirements are well known. But CEN and CENELEC are also very active in another key topic for the transport industry: the environmental impact and circularity of materials used for vehicles and transport infrastructure.

A Memorandum of Understanding enhances the commitment to develop maximum synergies between the different European Standards developed by EFRAG and by CEN and CENELEC in the field of sustainability reporting. The aim is to facilitate the implementation of sustainability reporting requirements for European businesses.

On International Women’s Day, CEN and CENELEC are happy to join the celebrations and highlight their efforts to achieve full gender equality and support women everywhere.

On 3 April, Anton Ofner, President of Austrian Standards International, and Valerie Höllinger, CEO & Managing Director of Austrian Standards, were invited to the key dialogue on “Growth = Standard!?” at the House of Standards & Innovation in Vienna. The discussions focused on how the EU and Austria prioritize the strategic market power of standardization and opportunities for growth resulting from standardization.

A ceremonial opening of the exhibition titled “The world is safe and sound when standards are around” took place at the Central Technical Library of the University of Ljubljana (CTK), co-organized by the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) and CTK. The exhibition highlights the crucial role of standards in ensuring safety, quality, and sustainability in everyday life, and their impact on society, industry, and technology.
