On Tuesday March 8th the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission (JRC), together with the European Committee for Standardization (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) held a virtual event to celebrate the renewal of their Cooperation Agreement which took place at the end of 2021.

2022 is the European Year of Youth. Indeed, the EU institutions have decided to establish this year to celebrate and shine a light on the importance of European youth to build a better future – greener, more inclusive and digital.

As the French presidency of the European Union draws to a close, AFNOR, the French National Standardization Association, is hosting a high-level conference to explore the issues at stake in the strategy driven by the European Commission, and to present what role voluntary standardization plays to achieve the EU's strategic autonomy. An action plan built by the European standardization community around CEN, CENELEC and ETSI - the three European standardization organisations officially recognised by the EU (ESOs) - will also be unveiled.

On 27 June, Cinzia Missiroli, the Director for Standardization and Digital Solutions at CEN and CENELEC, was invited to speak at “Bringing the AI Regulation Forward”, a joint event co-organised by the Spanish Government and the European Commission to launch the Spanish AI Sandbox Pilot.

The call for CEN and CENELEC Members to submit their nominations to the 2022 edition of Standards + Innovation Awards closed on June 15th. Since 2019, the Standards + Innovation Awards acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions of research and innovation to standardization presenting awards in three categories.
