Shaping Africa’s Digital and Green Future: European and African Standardization Experts Meet in Cairo

On 1 June 2025, more than 60 participants from 13 African countries gathered in Cairo for a high-level workshop co-hosted by the African Electrotechnical Standardisation Commission (AFSEC) and the InDiCo-Global project. Organized by CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, with the support of the Egyptian government, the event brought together National Standardization Committees, ministries, regulators, and private sector stakeholders to strengthen mutual understanding and develop cooperation between the African and European standardization systems in the digital domain.

In a key step toward strengthening global standardization ties, CEN and CENELEC participated in the 9th General Assembly of the African Electrotechnical Standardization Commission (AFSEC) in Kigali, Rwanda, on 4-5 September 2024.

CEN and CENELEC to speak at the Africa-Europe Science and Innovation Summit 2021

The Africa-Europe Science and Innovation Summit, organized by AERAP (the African-European Science Collaboration Astronomy Platform), will be held virtually from June 14 to June 18, 2021.  Within the content of this Summit, CEN and CENELEC, two of the official European Standardization Organizations, will present the dedicated session “Standards - Supporting innovation in Africa - How do standards foster innovation and economic prosperity?” on 17 June.

CEN and CENELEC will participate to a webinar on the Role of Standards in implementing Free Trade in Africa

 

On 15 February 2021, CEN and CENELEC will participate to the webinar “Africa Trading with Itself: Role of Standards and Technical Regulations in actualising Free Trade under the AfCFTA". The webinar, organised by ARSO – the African Organisation for Standardization, will highlight the various opportunities presented by the AfCFTA tools to address the existing Technical Barriers to Trade in Africa.
