North Macedonia: New committee created on child safety

On 27 April 2026, the Institute for Standardization of the Republic of North Macedonia (ISRSM) convened the constitutive session that marked the establishment of ISRSM’s national TC 50 on the safety of toys, childcare products, playgrounds, and equipment for sports and other recreational facilities.

ANEC previously reported on the establishment of this committee in the ANEC e-Newsletter, Ed. 7-2025.

The new technical committee (TC) brings together representatives from a wide range of institutions, including the Consumers’ Organization of Macedonia. Its establishment reflects a growing recognition of the need for coordinated action to ensure high levels of safety for children across products and environments.

At the inaugural meeting, Dr Marijana Lončar Velkova from the Consumers’ Organization of Macedonia, also the initiator of the technical committee, was elected President for a four-year term, with the possibility of re-election. This role provides an important opportunity to strengthen the consumer perspective in a key area of standardization work. ANEC sends congratulations to their North Macedonian member on her appointment.

During the session, the TC adopted its work programme and discussed priorities for future activities. ANEC’s work was also presented, with particular emphasis on the standardization activities of its Child Safety Working Group. The presentation generated strong interest among TC members, who asked numerous questions and showed keen interest in learning more about ANEC and its work on child safety in standardization.
