On December 8th, 2025, the Croatian Standards Institute (HZN) marked its 20th anniversary. The ceremony was held at Hotel International in Zagreb. Representatives of industry, academia, state authorities and ESOs, as well as experts and HZN employees – whose work has shaped the development of Croatian standardization – attended the event.
Igor Božičević, Acting Director of the Croatian Standards Institute, opened the ceremony. He emphasized how twenty years of HZN’s committed work confirmed the importance of standardization for a competitive economy, safe market, and modern society. He also highlighted the contribution of HZN employees and experts working in national, European, and international technical committees.
Cinzia Missiroli, Acting Director General of CEN and CENELEC, attended the ceremony and praised the visible contribution of HZN to the European standardization community. In their congratulatory video messages, the leaders of ISO, IEC, and ETSI highlighted the increase in the participation of Croatian experts in international standardization processes.
The central part of the ceremony was dedicated to the presentation of Certificates of Appreciation to HZN members and National Standards Bodies (NSBs) from the region for their years-long active contribution to standardization development. Certificates of Appreciation were presented to, among others, companies: KONČAR – Institut za elektrotehniku d.o.o., ALTPRO d.o.o., Holcim (Croatia) d.o.o. and Fiditas d.o.o., professional chambers: Croatian Chamber of Architects, Croatian Chamber of Civil Engineers, Croatian Chamber of Mechanical Engineers, and Croatian Chamber of Electrical Engineers, as well as to educational and scientific institutions: Faculty of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing of the University of Zagreb, Faculty of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Osijek, and the Ruđer Bošković Institute.
The Certificates of Appreciation were also presented to National Standards Bodies from the region: the Slovenian Institute for Standardization (SIST) and the Institute for Standardization of Serbia (ISS).
Celebrating its 20th anniversary confirmed that HZN is entering a new decade of its activities with a clear message that its employees and the community of experts are its greatest asset. HZN relies on a strong professional community and international partnerships in fostering cooperation, knowledge, and people as the basis of further development of standardization in Croatia.
