Call for interest: Member of Advisory Steering Committee for project to Reinforce the European Standardization System through Education

The three European Standardization Organizations – CEN, CENELEC and ETSI – have created a consortium to respond to a call under the Single Market Programme Standardization aimed at Reinforcing the European Standardization System through Education and addressing the need for skilled experts in standardization.

The aim of the project is to support European competitiveness by:

  • Fostering a next generation of standardization professionals, aligned with EU policy priorities;
  • Enabling wider participation by SMEs, students, and young professionals in standardization work;
  • Supporting strategic sectors such as cybersecurity, AI, blockchain, high-performance computing, and green technologies.

The project builds on CEN, CENELEC, and ETSI’s active engagement in the High-Level Forum on European Standardization (HLF), particularly Workstream (WS) 1 on Education and Skills, and reflects commitments made in the “Pledge on Education & Skills on Standards” signed by a majority of HLF members. As a continuation of these commitments, the ESOs in the project will seek impact through four key actions, namely:

  • Development of Education Materials
  • Student engagement and Internships
  • Pan-European Certificate on Standardization
  • Training in support of production of quality harmonized standards

Role of the Advisory Steering Committee (ASC)

The ASC will provide recommendations to the project team during the drafting and content definition phases. It will contribute to monitoring progress and milestones in relation to the agreed work programme, terms of reference, and timeline.

Examples of tasks include:

  • Review of educational material and advise on improvements
  • Review of content related to the Pan-European Certificate on Standardization
  • Feedback to the development of certification concept and scheme
  • Support promotion of the project initiatives
  • Advise the Project Steering Committee on synergies with existing initiatives, resources and the potential gaps

Requirements

The Advisory Steering Committee will consist of 12 members who, with their expertise, will complement the consortium and support the development of high-quality outputs related to the four key actions of the project.

The call for interest is open to experts that are EEA nationals from within academia, industry (including industrial associations and SMEs), policy, NSOs, and representatives of other entities who have experience within education and/or standardization.

The consortium strives to compose a committee that is diverse in age, gender, nationality, academic and professional backgrounds. The candidates that the consortium considers the most suitable group will be invited to become Advisory Steering Committee members.

The work is expected to be equivalent to 3-5 days per year over the 3-year duration of the project for which the experts will be compensated*.

Interested experts are invited to send a summary of their most relevant experience in the form of a one-page CV together with a motivation letter (max 500 words) to inno@cencenelec.eu by 20 March 2026 at the latest.

*Candidates representing members of the ESOs cannot be compensated financially within the framework of the project.
