On Thursday, February 5, the Seconded European Standardization Expert for China (SESEC) organized the 2026 EU–China Standardization Roundtable and New Year Reception in Beijing. Benjamin de Ville, representing CEN and CENELEC and the Joint Technical Committee 24 ‘Digital Product Passport’, presented the EU Digital Product Passport Standardization Developments to the audience.
The event opened with a special address by Mr Jorg Weberndorfer, Minister Counsellor for Industrial and SME Policies, Trade and Investment Section, Delegation of the European Union to China, who talked about the successes of the EU-China standardization cooperation and the progress of standardization efforts in Europe.
Mr de Ville presented the Ecodesign and Energy Labelling legislations, the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR), and the Digital Product Passport (DPP). He gave an overview of how European standardization work relates to the DPP and listed ongoing activities both at the European and international level. Mr de Ville also highlighted the relevance of the DPP for circular economy, sustainability, and supply chain transparency and emphasized the value of engaging early with international partners.
The event provided a platform for fostering deeper communication and collaboration between China and the European Union in the fields of standardization and technical regulation. The presentation on the DPP was highly anticipated so that participants can learn about the recent developments of the DPP related regulations and standards.
The event attracted around 80 participants, including key stakeholders from EU standardization communities in Beijing, representatives from EU organizations, standardization experts and representatives from EU companies in China, as well as several stakeholders representing China. The wide range of participants reflected strong demand for dialogue and practical cooperation in standardization between Europe and China.
