Call for Experts: Contribute to the European Fare Information Profile

The European Commission, through the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), is funding experts to contribute to the European Fare Information Profile project, a major initiative that will shape the future of multimodal ticketing and fare information across Europe.

Project Scope

The project aims to develop a new European Technical Specification (CEN/TS) for fare information, enabling seamless multimodal and multi-operator ticketing throughout the EU.

Building on established standards such as the Transmodel conceptual model and NeTEx exchange formats, the new specification will provide a harmonized framework covering:

  • Fare structures and products
  • Rules for interoperability
  • Data exchange protocols

The work will ensure alignment with existing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) standards, as well as rail-specific requirements. It will directly support EU policy objectives, including:

  • The Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy
  • Delegated Regulation (EU) 2024/490 on MMTIS
  • TAP TSI for rail

Coordination and Expert Involvement

The initiative is coordinated by CEN/AFNOR under CEN/TC 278/WG 3 (Public Transport). The project team will build on strong expertise and involvement in key European initiatives such as DATA4PT and NAPCORE-X.

The resulting specification will enable the publication and use of consistent, interoperable, and machine-readable fare data across modes and borders. This will foster:

  • Integrated mobility services
  • Better passenger information
  • A more efficient ticket distribution ecosystem

Why Join?

By participating, experts will:

  • Shape European standards with a lasting impact on mobility and digital transport services.
  • Collaborate across sectors, working with leaders in transport, technology, and standardization.
  • Gain recognition and valuable experience in the European standardization process.
  • Enhance both professional visibility and stakeholder relevance.

Your expertise can directly influence the way Europe advances interoperable, sustainable, and user-friendly mobility solutions.

How to Apply

Funded opportunities to join the expert team are limited. However, stakeholders also have the option to contribute on a voluntary basis.

If you would like to apply to join the project team, please complete the application form (link) and review the following documents:

Those interested in contributing on a voluntary basis are encouraged to contact their National Standardization Body to participate in CEN/TC 278 WG 3 (Public Transport).
