The European Commission, through the European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency (EISMEA), is funding experts to contribute to the European Fare Information Profile project, a major initiative that will shape the future of multimodal ticketing and fare information across Europe.
The project aims to develop a new European Technical Specification (CEN/TS) for fare information, enabling seamless multimodal and multi-operator ticketing throughout the EU.
Building on established standards such as the Transmodel conceptual model and NeTEx exchange formats, the new specification will provide a harmonized framework covering:
The work will ensure alignment with existing Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) standards, as well as rail-specific requirements. It will directly support EU policy objectives, including:
The initiative is coordinated by CEN/AFNOR under CEN/TC 278/WG 3 (Public Transport). The project team will build on strong expertise and involvement in key European initiatives such as DATA4PT and NAPCORE-X.
