Launch of the CEN Workshop 'VeriFish'

A new CEN Workshop is being planned as part of the activities of the EU project “VeriFish”. The aim of this project is help consumers by equipping them with the tools to make informed decisions about the seafood they buy.

Where our food comes from matters. However this knowledge is not always readily available or even accessible for consumers. The VeriFish project seeks to share accurate information about aquafood by offering a sustainability indicator framework to communicate responsible production and consumer patterns. This is of great importance for the pursuit of making aquafood more sustainable and will help mitigate the threats faced by our oceans due to overfishing, habitat loss and climate change.

This CEN Workshop will focus on providing a Good Practice recommendation on how to efficiently communicate to consumers about seafood. The purpose is to support public and private organizations to market more successfully to their audience through communication that encourages the consumption of local, seasonal, nutritious, healthy and sustainable seafood. The short term goal of such an initiative is to make marketing campaigns more efficient and influence buying behaviour; the longer term and larger goal is for consumers to effectively eat more sustainable seafood and for producers and retailers to support this change.

The proposed CWA will address the call from seafood stakeholders and communicators who have expressed their need for a Good Practice recommendation in this field.

The kick-off meeting for the Workshop will be at DG Byen in Copenhagen, Denmark on 24th June 2025 from 12.00 pm to 5.00 pm (CEST).

All interested parties are invited to submit comments on the draft Project Plan using the commenting form below, to the Workshop Secretary, Camilla Haugen (chau@standard.no), by June 18th, 2025.
