Launch of the CEN Workshop 'AMBIANCE - Advanced Manufacturing of Biobased products for urban outdoor applications through iNnovative CharactErisation, digital technologies, and circular approach'
The upcoming CEN Workshop aims to develop a detailed and comprehensive document that defines the key durability requirements for biobased products intended for outdoor use. This document will serve as a valuable reference for manufacturers, regulators, and end-users by providing essential insights into how these products perform under various environmental conditions.
It will specifically examine the effects of external factors such as exposure to sunlight, temperature fluctuations, humidity, and precipitation on the durability and functionality of biobased materials. In addition, it will evaluate their resistance to mechanical stress, fire retardancy, graffiti, VOC emissions, as well as smell and colour stability, ensuring that these products maintain both their aesthetic appeal and structural integrity over time.
Through the development of this document, the CEN Workshop seeks to support the adoption of high-quality biobased materials for outdoor applications, thereby promoting sustainability, innovation, and resilience across sectors such as construction, landscaping, and urban design.
The planned CEN Workshop Agreement will focus in particular on the main characteristics of biobased products used in outdoor environments, with special attention to artificial turf, urban furniture, and construction materials. The agreement will assess their performance in terms of accessibility and durability under varying environmental conditions, and will also evaluate their resistance to mechanical degradation.
A key goal will be to determine how well these products withstand physical wear and tear caused by external forces, as well as deliberate damage such as graffiti. Their fire resistance and potential to release harmful pollutants will also be examined.
By addressing these critical aspects, the CEN Workshop Agreement aims to guide the development and selection of biobased products that deliver greater sustainability, reliability, and long-term performance in outdoor settings.
The kick-off meeting for the Workshop is planned to take place remotely on the 24th June 2025 from 11.00 a.m. to 01.00 p.m. (CET). Please, send the attached registration form to the Workshop secretary (UNI) Paolo Santato (paolo.santato@uni.com).
