Shaping the future of standardization – together

At the end of May, colleagues from Standards Norway and Europe spent some inspiring days together in Norway focusing on business model innovation.

Heads of European standardization organizations from across Europe travelled to Oslo for the first ever CEN and CENELEC Head of Delegation meeting about Business Model Innovation.

The meeting was inspired by the work of the Business Model Champions group – and marked an important step in exploring how standardization can adapt to a changing world.

Highlights included:

  • an address from CEN President Stefano Calzolari encouraging openness, creativity and action: “Let this meeting energize us. Let it be a place of openness, creativity, and above all, action!”
  • a clear call from Jacob Mehus, Managing Director of Standards Norway: “We need to act now. We're not the first to need to renew our business model.”
  • a reminder from Maria Valenzuela, Founder and CEO of Brisa Media, about the change of user needs: "We must be ready to meet users where they are. Once habits change, they don’t go back."

A common theme throughout was: Collaborate. Experiment. Act.

Standards Norway thanks everyone who contributed to the fruitful discussion and looks forward to continuing the conversation – and working together in this important transformation of European standardization.
