The implementation of the AI Act depends on a strong foundation of European standards and best practices – developed collaboratively by industry, public authorities, consumer representatives, researchers, and other stakeholders.
From Monday, 12 May, to Friday, 16 May, Standards Norway had the pleasure of hosting the JTC 21 Technical Committee meeting in Stavanger, bringing together experts from across Europe to advance the development of AI standards. Standards Norway is especially grateful to the Norwegian Ocean Industry Authority (Havtil – Havindustritilsynet) for generously co-hosting the event.
Throughout the week, more than 100 delegates engaged in vital discussions about the future of AI standardization and its role in building a trustworthy and resilient digital Europe.
During the open seminar on Wednesday, Norway’s Minister of Digitalization and Public Governance, Karianne Tung, underlined the crucial role of standards as part of the infrastructure enabling Norwegian society and industry to both seize the opportunities and manage the risks posed by AI.
Sigve Knudsen, Managing Director of Havtil, stressed the importance of aligning standards with regulatory needs, noting that Havtil currently references more than 160 standards in its regulatory framework.
Standards Norway extends their sincere thanks to all the European experts who are shaping the standards that will guide the responsible development and deployment of AI in Europe.
A special thank you as well to all the distinguished speakers, panelists, and contributors who helped make the seminar both insightful and inspiring.
