CEN and CENELEC launch new Standards+Innovation award for education in standardization

With the launch of the first Standards+Innovation Awards, CEN, CENELEC and their members took important steps towards giving researchers well-deserved recognition for their contribution to standardization. However, there can be no research in standardization without education in standardization. Education in standardization based on European values also reinforces Europe’s capacity to contribute to international standardization activities. With the new award category dedicated to education, CEN and CENELEC address the need for education and skills identified in the EU Standardization Strategy released in 2022 and the Code of Practice on standardization published in 2023.

The new award category will recognize those who promote education in standardization in Europe in new and relevant ways, which others can take inspiration from. With the award, CEN and CENELEC intend to contribute to attracting Higher Education Institutes and teachers across Europe to the teaching of standardization, whether as a standalone topic or incorporated into other curricula. To create momentum around the award and enforce the focus on education in standardization, the award will be granted on a yearly basis.

The nominees shall be evaluated based on relevance for standardization, the originality of the initiative, and the impact of their efforts locally, as well as the capacity to inspire beyond their own institute.
