RISERS Interim Plenary sharpens focus on standardization priorities for Industrial Symbiosis

On 5 June 2025, the RISERS project held its Interim Plenary Session, bringing together over 40 participants from across Europe, representing project partners, Working Groups, and stakeholder organizations. Participants joined from a wide range of countries, including Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, and Spain, reflecting the broad geographic reach and relevance of the initiative.

The session served to align the project’s progress and sharpen the focus on key standardization needs identified during the first phase of co-creational work.

Central to the discussions was the draft content of the RISERS Standardization Roadmap, which builds on insights from the first round of Working Group meetings. Participants explored both cross-cutting issues (such as terminology harmonization, end-of-waste status, and digital infrastructure) and sector-specific challenges in areas including batteries, packaging, biomass, textiles, and waste heat. A recurring theme was the need to better integrate industrial symbiosis into existing standards and regulatory frameworks, and to support this through data-sharing mechanisms and circularity metrics.

The plenary also featured live polling and interactive exchanges to gather input on roadmap priorities and the process ahead. These outcomes will directly inform the second round of Working Group meetings scheduled for autumn 2025 and the development of the full roadmap.

The presentation slides, Slido poll results, and meeting minutes are available here. Stakeholders interested in contributing to the RISERS roadmap are invited to join the collaboration space hosted on DIN.ONE.
