BDS and ASRO join efforts to develop a series of academic courses on standards in support of the European green transition

The Bulgarian Institute for Standardization (BDS) and the Romanian Standards Association (ASRO), in partnership with four universities, started in November 2022 the implementation of a two-year project, B-Green-ED - Boosting the Green Future via University Micro-Credentials, funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Commission.

The main objective of the project is to support the European green economy and the efforts for achieving climate neutrality through the development of innovative practices for teaching standardization in higher education. The action also aims to increase awareness about the strategic value of the standardization and is in line with the EU Strategy on Standardization, CEN and CENELEC Strategy 2030, as well as ISO Strategy 2030.

BDS and ASRO, in collaboration with the project academia partners, are planning to develop micro-credential courses on standardization and standards for university students. The knowledge learnt in the courses might be used in their future professional activities in support of the green objectives.

The major project outcomes are to provide at least ten micro-credential courses in response to the identified needs of the universities. Each university will offer at least three micro-credential courses on its own digital learning platform and trainings will be piloted on standards in support of the European green transition. At the end, the micro-credentials are expected to be officially recognised by the partner universities at the national level.

ASRO and BDS hope that the successful implementation of the project will facilitate the provision of flexible, accessible, and inclusive education on standards and standardization, which has been recognised as a gap in the European educational system.
