CEN establishes closer links with the Standards Organization of Nigeria (SON)

On 24 March 2023, the CEN General Assembly approved the application of SON (the Standards Organisation of Nigeria) to become a CEN Companion Standardization Body (CSB).

By becoming a CSB, SON will enjoy a strengthened relationship with CEN on many issues: for instance, as a privileged partner, it will now have easier access to CEN standards for review and adoption will be greatly facilitated. Furthermore, it will also have the opportunity to participate in CEN’s standards developing process by sending Nigerian observers into CEN Technical Committees (TCs), thus promoting technical exchanges and the sharing of expertise with their European counterparts.

This new partnership also fits in the frame of CEN and CENELEC partnerships with ARSO and AFSEC, the two African continental standardization organisations which CEN and CENELEC consider as priority partners. Since a few years, a strong cooperation with the two regional organisations has been taking place, in the context of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement.
