Two European experts are among the awardees of IEC’s 2022 Thomas Edison Awards

Two European standardization experts, Beatriz Novel and Valérie Demassieux, are among the recipients of the 2022 Thomas A. Edison Awards by the IEC, the International Electrotechnical Committee. The awards were presented officially on 1 November during the IEC General Meeting that took place this week in San Francisco.

Created in 2010, the Thomas A. Edison Awards recognise exceptional achievement, dedicated service, and significant contributions to international electrotechnical standardization by officers involved in IEC technical committees and subcommittees or in the conformity assessment systems.

A Spanish citizen, Beatriz NOVEL is the Deputy Technical Director at AFME, the Spanish Association of Electric Material Producers. She has a long experience in International and European Standardization, holding leadership positions in a series of technical bodies. Currently, she serves as Chair of IEC’s SC 23 E ‘Circuit-breakers and similar equipment for household use’ and of its mirror committee at the European level CLC/TC 23E ‘Circuit breakers and similar devices for household and similar applications’. She is also Chair of CENELEC’s TC 205 ‘Home and Building Electronic Systems (HBES)’, and Secretary of CLC/TC 37A ‘Low voltage surge protective devices’.

Valérie DEMASSIEUX, a French citizen, was awarded for her experience in the field of electrotechnical standardization, and in particular for her contribution as IEC’s SC 65C ‘Industrial Networks’. Mrs Demassieux is also involved at the European level, contributing to the work of CLC/TC 65X ‘Industrial-process measurement, control and automation’, especially on cybersecurity matters.

CENELEC is happy to congratulate Mrs Novel and Mrs Demassieux, together with the other winners of the award, and to thank them for their important contribution to electrotechnical standardization both in Europe and globally.
