CEN and CENELEC among the lecturers at the Florence Patent Licensing Academy

CEN and CENELEC’s Legal Advisor Martin Chatel will be lecturing at The Florence Patent Licensing Academy at the European University Institute (EUI).

Mr Chatel’s lecture “The standardization ecosystem and the principles of FRAND licensing” will take place on 4 October. He will discuss CEN and CENELEC’s approach to basing European Standards on FRAND Conditions and the balance of ensuring a reasonable return to innovators that contribute to standards with fair access to patented technologies for standard users.

The Florence Patent Academy is a four-day training programme on the law, economics and practice of patent licensing. CEN and CENELEC’s Martin Chatel will present his lecture as a part of a full day programme on Standard Essential Patents & licensing in the ICT industry. Other topics that will be discussed during the academy include Patent Licensing in Pharma; ICT standardization: the case of SMEs and SEP licensing; Patent Licensing in the Automotive Sector; and Negotiating Patent Licensing Agreements among others.

The Academy is co-organised by the Florence Competition Programme and the Florence School of Regulation from the 3rd to the 6th of October, with the European Patent Office (EPO) as Institutional Partner. It will be held in hybrid format with the option to attend online or in person at Villa Schifanoia, Florence, Italy.
