CEN Workshop on ‘Test method for the evaluation of the adhesive properties of fibre reinforced polymer composite joints’

This CEN Workshop is targeted to the global composites market that includes industries related to the automotive, aerospace, aeronautics, architecture, energy, infrastructures, marine and transportation and to all the scientific community that is interested in fibre reinforced polymer composites and their mechanical response.

Polymer composites are being used, with an increasing demand, at more and more structural applications (e.g. aircraft fuselage, wind turbines, gears, chassis, etc.) due to their lightweight and high stiffness and strength.

The objective of the CEN Workshop is to develop a CEN Workshop Agreement including a test method for the evaluation of the adhesive properties of fibre reinforced polymer composite joints. The test method will allow the determination of the adhesive properties in joints of continuous fibre reinforced polymer matrix composite structures using the Lap Strap specimen.

The importance of the proposed test method lies on the reduction of the consumption of the materials and manufacturing time while simultaneously indicating similar damage mechanisms, comparing to the typical stringer run-out configuration. Contribution to standardization activities has been specified as one of the means for increasing the awareness and impact of the results of the AIRPOXY project, that receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 769274. This CEN Workshop will be used as a tool for the dissemination of some AIRPOXY results.

The WS secretariat is hold by the Spanish Standardization Body, UNE.

The kick-off meeting will be held virtually on 4 October 2021.
