The aim of this event is to build upon work delivered under Mandate M/526 as issued by the European Commission, where infrastructure sectors were prioritized and their standardization needs in terms of climate change adaptation identified. We want to explore the findings of M/526 and add to that work with our stakeholders, to confirm their needs in order to tackle long term infrastructure resilience.

The standardisation of low-carbon cement is a key issue for the decarbonization of the construction industry. The cement industry accounts for around 7-8% of global greenhouse gas emissions (4% in Europe). In view of the revision of the Construction Products Regulation and the existence of non-harmonised standards covering the various components of the construction sector, the High Level Forum on European Standardisation (HLF) explored actions to facilitate and accelerate the use of these innovative products.

This training will equip TCs and their Working Groups (WGs) on how to use the “Tailored Guidance for Standardization Technical Committees” to identify climate issues in their standards and to address these in line with the EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. This training will identify TCs and WGs that identify as able to proceed with minimum further assistance, and those that require more support on climate change adaptation from our experts.

In July 2024, a new HLF workstream on Quantum let by Italy as member state has started its work. This topic is well developed under our CEN/CENELEC JTC22 which standardization roadmap on Quantum became the key material for further work of this working group. The leader of the WS16 on Quantum, Ministero delle Imprese a del Made in Italy, is organizing a workshop on which the stakeholders of the standardization system will have a chance to lead expert discussions which will be used as basis for summary report and recommendations.

Regulation (EU) 2024/1183 amending Regulation (EU) 910/2014 on electronic identities, authentication and signatures (eIDAS 2) was published in the Official Journal of the European Union this spring 2024. This amendment establishes an ambitious European Digital Identity Framework with digital identity wallets and a number of new trust services.

The standardization of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is both challenging and crucial for establishing IS as a common industrial practice, essential for achieving the EU's circularity goals and “zero” ambitions. The RISERS EU-funded project addresses this challenge by developing a comprehensive roadmap for IS standardization. The approach focuses on optimizing existing standards, such as those for the circular economy, and identifying gaps where new standards are needed.

This webinar is organized by the CEN-CENELEC SABE Topic Group Circular Economy (SABE CE-TG) with the objective of providing guidance to CEN and CENELEC technical bodies in the preparation of circular economy related standards. This workshop will provide participants with practical information regarding standardization activities and best practices related to circular economy and material efficiency topics from National, European and International standardization.
